1. Who manages the information
Abu Mu’min and the Al-Muazzinun team in Cyprus administer this website and receive privacy requests through the contact details below. This notice describes the site’s current features, including public memorials, moderated submissions, cemetery care and optional visitor statistics.
2. Information we handle
- Public memorials: names, available birth/death/burial dates, nationality, grave reference, permitted photographs, descriptions, funeral links and any recorded grave location.
- Account and submissions: the user identifier and email supplied by ChatGPT sign-in, the information you submit, its review status and review history. Account email addresses are not displayed with public visitor prayers or memorials.
- Care reports: a description, category and optional photograph sent to the team. These are private to administration unless a separate lawful publication decision is made.
- Optional statistics: after your permission, a random session identifier and last activity time support the visit counter. That counter does not store your name, IP address or page-by-page browsing history. Hosting and security providers may separately process connection and security logs.
- Device preferences: selected prayer city, calculation settings, audio choices and your statistics preference may be stored in your browser. These are separate from the public memorial database.
Please avoid sending unnecessary information about living people, children, health, identity documents or private family circumstances.
3. Purposes and legal grounds
We use information to maintain memorial records, review contributions, coordinate requested assistance, respond to corrections, safeguard the service and keep backups. Where data-protection law applies, necessary administration and moderation rely on legitimate interests subject to individuals’ rights, or another applicable lawful ground. Optional statistics rely on your consent. We seek specific permission where it is required for a particular publication or use.
The GDPR does not itself apply to deceased persons’ data. Information about living contributors, relatives or people appearing in photographs may nevertheless be protected. We handle objections and sensitive material with care regardless of that distinction.
5. Location, maps, audio and external providers
Location access is optional and requires your browser’s permission. A selected prayer location is stored on your device. City searches and prayer calculations can send the necessary search, coordinates and settings through our server to the providers used for those features. Do not enable location if you prefer to select a city manually.
The service uses ChatGPT/OpenAI for sign-in and site hosting capabilities, Cloudflare infrastructure for hosting/storage/security, and feature providers such as IslamicFinder/Athan, AlAdhan, Open-Meteo, map-tile services and Quran audio sources. Google Fonts may receive a connection when website fonts load. Providers can receive technical data such as an IP address when your browser connects to them. WhatsApp, TikTok, YouTube and other external destinations apply their own policies when you open them.
Provider operations may involve processing outside Cyprus or the EEA, depending on their infrastructure and applicable arrangements. Contact us for information about the providers and safeguards relevant to your request; we do not represent that all processing occurs only in Cyprus.
6. Access, retention and backups
Approved memorial information and prayers are publicly accessible and can be indexed by search engines. Share only material intended for public viewing. Account identifiers, account emails, pending submissions and private reports are restricted to administration through the site’s access controls.
Memorial records are kept for the continuing remembrance purpose unless a valid correction or removal request, or another relevant reason, requires a change. Requests and review history are kept as needed for handling, accountability and resolving concerns. We retain rolling backups; copies may also remain in protected media backups and review history. A removal from public display does not by itself erase every backup. Ask us to assess the scope of deletion needed in your case.
We use access restrictions and backups, but cannot guarantee absolute security. Contact us promptly if you suspect unauthorised disclosure.
7. Requests and complaints
Depending on the law and circumstances, you may request access, correction, erasure, restriction or portability of your personal data, object to relevant processing, or withdraw consent. We may ask for proportionate information to verify a request. Where GDPR response deadlines apply, we normally respond within one month, with an extension only where legally permitted.
You may also contact the Office of the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection in Cyprus or another competent supervisory authority. You do not have to contact us first to exercise a complaint right.
8. Updates
We will update this notice when relevant practices change and display the effective date above. A privacy notice does not remove your statutory rights or replace a consent choice where one is required.
